Looking to Update Your Home?

We all have been there. No matter why you want to update your home, you want to do it this year since last year you put off multiple projects that were planned for your house. Well, you’re not alone considering most people continue to put off things they were going to do, like adding a deck or patio, fixing the roof, organizing the garage, or installing new windows.

We get it, though. Life happens. Time gets away. You don’t have the right tools. You couldn’t find the right help when you needed it. Whether you consider these excuses or legitimate reasons for not updating your home like you wanted, ultimately you want to get around to doing it this year.

So, check out what suggestions we have on making your home look a lot nicer. Some take a little more work, some take a little more money.

New windows

We’re not suggesting you install a completely new window into a part of your home that has none. Rather, you should replace older windows if they’re over ten years old. A lot of windows could probably last longer, but at that point they begin to let heat slip out more easily and let drafts in.

A new or replaced window is the perfect time to get a different style, too. Whether you want windows that open up or even slide, now’s your chance to experiment with something new.

Indoor garden

Perhaps you don’t have a green thumb like I do, but you can still try to plant some flowers, herbs, or succulents in your home with relative ease. The good thing is that you don’t have to worry much about pests getting into your garden indoors. And usually, these plants are easy to take care of and only need so much sunlight to survive. Having plants inside your home will also serve to filter your air and spruce up your place with some liveliness.

Home entertainment system

This will completely transform your living room if you get a nice one. Heck, you don’t even have to shill out the money for one if you’re crafty enough to build your own. Entertainment systems are every man’s dream, though, so if you or your husband even remotely likes tech and game days, think about updating your living room to bring it all together. There’s more shelving space once you have one, it can hold multiple consoles or TVs or soundbars, and it really ties in the look of a room you watch TV in.

Making Your Workplace Comfortable

Do you ever feel sluggish at your job? I mean, really. To the point that you find yourself nodding off around 2 p.m. every single day? You find your workplace extremely boring, it’s not representative of your hobbies or character whatsoever, and you don’t really like being in your office?

All of those things could change if you simply updated your space or even asked to move rooms. We’ve got a few tips on how to spice up where you work, which will increase your happiness on the job and how effective you are at completing tasks and being more efficient in general.

Hybrid standing desk

You’ve at least heard of these even if you haven’t seen them. Hybrid desks are great for getting you to wake yourself up and give your body a change in pace. Standing is great for you and your body anyway, as sitting at a computer chair all day can be quite bad for your posture. Just switch it up every hour or so and you’ll feel like you can get a heck of a lot more done in less time.

Windows

If you want to be happier, more energetic, and enjoy your office more, you have to have some sort of windows available. I’m a huge advocate of natural light and how it can boost your productivity, so make sure you work in a space that has access to natural light. If it’s almost impossible to do this, at least have some sort of lighting in your room that makes you happy, comfortable, and fits your style. Overhead lighting can be too clinical in my opinion, so I prefer the ambience of lamps.

Comfy chair

You know how sleeping affects your overall health because you spend almost a third of your life doing it, so having a quality mattress is in your best interests? Well, computer chairs kind of fall into the same category of importance because you’ll be sitting in one for a large portion of your life as well. Make sure it’s got great support but you also find it comfortable for your own posture.

Speedy computer

If your computer is outdated or old, you’ll notice the amount of lag it has big time. And this can slow your pace at work while simultaneously frustrating you to no end. If your computer is over 5 years old, it’s probably time to ask your boss if you can get a new one or at least have it updated in some fashion. By letting them know your productivity is far less with a crappy computer, they’ll get the idea and likely provide a new one.

Frying Out

This past weekend when I was home with my family, we decided to fry some finger foods instead of make a traditional meal for dinner. There’s something great about having a beer while you deep fry some foods outside with your dad. And from there, you pretty much snack as you go and make more when people want more. Easy, isn’t it?

Well, it’s not always as easy as you’d imagine. You pretty much want to steer clear of a lot of things and “seclude” yourself from anything that your deep fryer may end up harming. Luckily, we’ve got a short list of tips to follow if you’re gonna be frying now that the weather is beginning to warm up.

Steer clear of other things

You shouldn’t ever use a fryer on a wooden surface, such as a deck or patio, as that’s a quick way to start a fire. And really, you don’t want to use it in enclosed spaces either like a garage or shed. The best place to choose is on level surface, like concrete, where it’s away from other structures.

Also make sure to stay away from windows, as the grease that inevitably splashes and emanates from the fryer will coat your windows with a disgusting layer of oil.

Stay away from the fryer until needed

You really should keep anyone and everyone who isn’t cooking away from the fryer. And since you’re the operator, you should also try to keep your distance until you need to put more food in or pull food out. After you turn the fryer off, though, is when you really should remind people to stay away, as oil can stay very hot for a long time. Bumping into that and spilling it can be a huge health risk, so it’s best to block the area off or keep children and pets far away.

Use recommended safety equipment

Use sturdy oven mitts, have long sleeves on, put a pair of safety goggles on, and try to have a pair of tongs handy if you can. You never know when some oil may pop and cause you a lot of trouble.

Place, don’t drop

When you’re putting more food in the fryer, you really should remove the basket and place more food in instead of dropping extra pieces in the vat. By dropping stuff in, you risk splashing extremely hot oil on yourself or others, so always remember to remove the basket first and then put the food in the basket. Lowering it in takes away all the popping and splashing that you would otherwise be doing by dropping stuff in.
